Julia McMurray
Artist Biography
I believe that art in any form is necessary and important in our everyday life. If I can interpret what I perceive as beautiful and interesting in my ordinary world and convey that to someone else, then as an art maker, I will know that my effort and work is legitimate. I guess I paint for the love of it. I paint what surrounds me, what I love, what emotionally draws me in. I learn from trying, from my failures, from my fellow artists and from my loved ones.
Watercolor has always excited me – it is not predictable, it changes, moves and surprises. I am captivated and I hope I can convey in my work this joy that I experience when I place brush to paper.
I have exhibited my work at many League of Milwaukee Artists shows, winning awards on a few occasions. I have had the honor of being juried into the Transparent Watercolor Society of America Exhibition twice. I have also juried into Watercolor Wisconsin shows on eight occasions and The Hardy Gallery in Door County numerous times. My work has been shown at the Alfons Gallery in Milwaukee in a four-artist show; at the Paint Box Gallery in Ephraim, Wisconsin; as well as, Wisconsin Watercolor Society shows.
I am a member of the following art societies:
Wisconsin Watercolor Society – juried member
League of Milwaukee Artists – juried member
Transparent Watercolor Society of America
American Watercolor Society
