The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists. It was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose now as then has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor.

Artist Biography

A native of Michigan, I became a Racine resident and an art teacher for 39 years. My career began as a teacher and watercolorist in suburban Detroit and continued in Racine, beginning in 1962. At that time, I was producing very liquid, free watercolors with themes using forms of nature. While teaching and studying at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I began to focus my attention on ceramics. After earning my Masters in Ceramics and Sculpture, I produced functional high-fire stoneware for 25 years. During this period of time, I continued to paint occasionally in watercolor. Since my retirement, I am, again, concentrating on painting. A lifelong interest in gardening and nature influences my work.
