The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists. It was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose now as then has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor.

Artist Statement

After working for some years as an oil painter, I switched to watercolor because I was fascinated by the qualities of watercolor paint: transparency and fusion of color. As an architect, I was always interested in the design of my paintings. I don’t necessarily paint what I see, but what I feel. I try to convey the feeling of a subject, not just the physical appearance. I also enjoy strong color and endeavor to use a color palette which reinforces the interest and the feeling I am trying to convey, not necessarily the local color of the scene I am painting. Many of my paintings are taken from subjects derived from my travels.
