The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists. It was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose now as then has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor.

Artist Biography

I was born and raised in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, and I received an Art Education degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. I have since spent ten wonderfully happy years in the art classroom, primarily at the elementary level. Although the classroom has enabled me to enjoy a wide variety of mediums, in my free time, I work almost exclusively with watercolor.

I was introduced to the medium by my late great-uncle, Bruno Rohlffs, who was a longstanding member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society. I found myself deeply inspired by his paintings and by the beauty he brought about through the gentle and deliberate layering of colors. I, too, employ many subtle layers of watercolor to build depth and dimension in my paintings, oftentimes using dozens of monochromatic layers to bring life to each portrait.
