Carolyn Simpson
Artist Biography
I have been painting watercolor since 2005. I have read and studied dozens of books on drawing and watercolor painting and often enjoy the study of art more than the creation of it.
However local success gave me the confidence to turn a bedroom into a studio, and my work has earned memberships and awards with the Wauwatosa Artists Workshop, League of Milwaukee Artists and the Wisconsin Watercolor Society, where I currently serve on the board.
My work was juried five years into the Watercolor Wisconsin exhibit at the Racine Art Museum and three years into the Interfaith Program for the Elderly Lifetime Art Competition in Milwaukee. A solo exhibit of 32 paintings at my local library was one of the highlights of my artistic pursuits.
A former librarian and corporate foundation executive, I now enjoy sharing my unique way of seeing beauty in things that are common, lost, old, discarded, weak or fleeting through the medium of watercolor. I also am hiking the Ice Age Trail and looking forward to developing my quick drawings, photos and writings into a series of watercolor paintings showing the quiet beauty of the 1,200-mile trail through the state of Wisconsin.
