Artist Statement
As a youngster, I spent many hours in the lake, woods, beaches and gardens of my grandparents’ lake home in Wisconsin. My mother said I never returned from one of my nature walks without something beautiful in my hand-a pinecone, shell, rock, leaf or flower. I would then analyze it like a precious gift and try to draw or paint what I saw. As an adult with a full time career and three children, I stopped for a moment in my busy life to continue with my true desire to be an artist.
I settled on watercolor as my medium because of its transparency and ability to create so many unique colors and looks. I paint a wide range of subjects including flowers and vegetables from my garden, landscapes, water and food. I want the viewers of my paintings to not only see but feel what is on my watercolor paper. Sometimes our visual sense can open our other senses as well. That painted waterfall can sound so powerful, two small children hugging each other can bring up strong emotions, the transparent petals on my roses can smell so sweet. When my viewers see the sundae I have painted, I want them to almost taste that chocolate fudge dripping off the butter pecan ice cream. Surprises like those can really bring about joy in our lives!
