The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists. It was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose now as then has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor.

Artist Statement

I agreed to buy watercolors, brushes and paper, and so much more, so my wife Cheri Porter would begin to paint. For years. I tried to persuade her to take up watercolor painting without success. It only took a few failed paintings to realize I enjoyed painting with watercolors in spite of what I initially created.

I thoroughly love watching the magic of pigments, water and cotton paper while creating a painting. I have not had any formal art training, except for one class at Northern Illinois University. Art appreciation. Except for fulfilling a credit requirement, the class gave me a profound love of art by the masters.
